Dr. Haiquan Liu, BC licensed optometrist, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou China with Bachelor degree in Medicine, Master and PhD degree in Ophthalmology. He practiced as an ophthalmologist and specialized in glaucoma, at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, which is one of the top 20 biggest eye centers in the world, for over 14 years, from 1988 to 2002. He has developed solid clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of wide range of eye diseases, including glaucoma, retinal disease and cataract etc.

Dr. Liu moved to US to continue his post-doctoral training at the School of Optometry, University California Berkeley from 2002 to 2005, where he focused on studying the genes and mechanisms of eye disease. Since moving to Canada in 2005, Dr. Liu spent the first 2 years to continue studying the mechanisms of eye development at University of Victoria. He was then recruited to QLT Pharmaceutical Company as a scientist specialized in the development of pharmaceutical treatment for eye diseases.

Dr. Liu has published more than 30 papers, including clinical study and basic science research. Eleven papers were published on the world class top level ophthalmology journals, of which, 7 papers were published with Dr. Bruce Beutler, the 2011 Nobel Prize winner, as the co-author. Dr. Liu’s extensive experience in clinical practice and research, together with his broad knowledge of understanding the mechanisms of the eye disease and the most current research development treatment for ocular disease will be a great asset to his clinical practice.
